...a little more about me! :)

For a fun activity the other week, I needed to think of some little-known facts about myself for CGA.

As I sat and tried to answer the question, "What don't people know about me already?", I had a few things come to mind. These facts were used in the activity and then I quickly forgot about them.

However, as I remembered them the other day, I had the realization: these might be smaller pieces of my life, but they've shaped me all the same and are just as important as some of the bigger things in my life

So...here is to learning some of the greater intricacies of what makes me me.

  1. My first missions trip (and first time outside the US) was to a closed country in the Middle East.
This one is probably the most-widely known about myself, but I'm realizing it's had a larger impact on my life than I realized. Almost five years ago, I went to the Middle East, knowing little about the people and unsure why I was really even going. Now, Muslims are the people group that probably have the biggest piece of my heart. And it all stems from this one trip. Crazy.
  2. I have never broken a bone in my body, but I did have my jaw broken and wired shut for 6 weeks to fix an underbite.
Solid food. I will never take that for granted again. Also, mumbling, enunciating, and speaking up were common issues for me years after having my jaw wired shut. Still are, sometimes.
  3. I have a number of family members that have served in different branches of the U.S. military.
I'm also ridiculously proud of my family members for serving in the military and I don't tell them that nearly as much as I should. Also, there's traits you learn and have instilled in you when you grow with military family. Like honor, discipline, and loyalty. Also, forever I will operate under the notion that showing up five minutes early means I'm on time, showing up on time means I'm late, and if you're going to be late, you might as well not show up at all. [Thanks for that one, Dad.]
  4. Most of my extended family is Filipino...but I am not.
My step-grandmother is from the Philippines originally, so there is a whole portion of my family tree that is Filipino and I LOVE IT. I love that my family is multicultural and I forget sometimes how great of a blessing that is because it's something I simply grew up having. But not everyone gets to experience the same thing, so it's normal but it's also special. I haven't been connected to them all that much because I live far away from them, but when I do get to visit them, it's great.
Also, it means fun things like Christmas dinner means roast beef and potatoes as well as pancit and lumpia. So good.
  5. God often speaks to me through Disney movies.

But for reals, though. Aladdin, Tangled, Mulan, Hercules, Pocahontas, the list could go on for quite awhile...I know that they are children's movies, but there's depth to them if you look beyond the singing and flying carpets. I grew up loving these movies so it is a fun part of my relationship with God that He would take such beloved stories and give me a new perspective of them.
Feeling skeptical? I dare you to try it. ;)
